Paris Hilton’s pot charge quickly went up in smoke. The 29-year-old heiress was busted on drug possession charges Friday during a World Cup match by South African cops. A few hours later, red-faced authorities said it was all a mistake, apologized and released the reality show star. Cops arrested the globe-trotting socialite during the quarterfinal match between the Netherlands and Brazil at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium Friday night.
But somebody in Paris’ posse who had the grass fessed up and was ordered to pay a small fine, a source told E! News. Right it wasn’t Paris just one of her friends. She didn’t smoke any it was all the “friends” fault.
“The incident was a complete misunderstanding,” said a Hilton spokesperson. “The case has been dropped against Paris and no charges will be made. The authorities have apologized for wrongfully accusing her.”
Despite the arrest, Hilton, who arrived in South Africa Thursday with her sister Nicky, seemed to remain in high spirits. ”Had so much fun at the game today,” she Twittered. “What a match! I love South Africa!” She added: “I can’t wait to go on the Safari this week and see all the amazing animals.”
Hilton’s latest brush with the law came three years after she went to jail for 23 days for violating probation in an alcohol-related driving case.
